About this plant
A deciduous shrub with an upright, spreading habit, this plant is ideal for naturalistic gardens and wildlife habitats. It is hardy in zones 3–8, preferring full sun and well-drained soils, though it tolerates a range of soil types. Known for its delicate, fragrant pink blooms that appear in late spring to summer, it attracts pollinators like bees and butterflies. In fall, it displays vibrant orange-red foliage and produces small red hips, adding seasonal interest and providing food for birds. Reaching a mature height of 4–6 feet, it can be trimmed for shape but is naturally open-formed. With moderate deer resistance, this plant is an excellent choice for low-maintenance landscapes. It thrives in temperatures between -40°F and 100°F.
