About this plant
This broadleaf evergreen shrub showcases a dense, upright to spreading habit, making it ideal for hedges, screens, or foundation plantings. Recommended for zones 6-9, it thrives in moderate climates with temperatures ranging from -10°F to 20°F. It prefers moist, well-drained soils and tolerates a range of soil types, including clay. Glossy, dark green foliage provides year-round interest, while fragrant white flowers bloom in spring, giving way to small black fruits that attract birds. Fall color is not prominent, as the leaves remain evergreen. Reaching a mature height of 10-20 feet and a spread of 5-10 feet, it is deer-resistant and low-maintenance, requiring occasional pruning to maintain shape. Ideal for adding structure and privacy to landscapes.
