About this plant
A compact, deciduous shrub with a dense, upright habit, this plant is known for its stunning foliage and multi-seasonal interest. Recommended for USDA hardiness zones 3 to 7, it thrives in full sun to part shade and tolerates a wide range of soils, including clay, as long as they are well-drained. Its unique foliage emerges in vibrant shades of orange and matures to a deep, rich red, offering striking fall color. Small white or pale pink flowers appear in late spring, attracting pollinators, and are followed by decorative seed capsules that extend interest into late summer. This shrub typically grows to a mature height of 3 to 4 feet with a similar spread, making it ideal for compact spaces, borders, or mixed planting beds. It is moderately deer-resistant and low-maintenance, adding year-long beauty with minimal effort.
