About this plant
This narrow, upright shrub boasts an elegant, columnar habit, growing tall and slender to a height of 6-10 feet with a spread of 1-2 feet. Hardy in USDA Zones 5-9, it thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained, acidic soil. The glossy, dark green foliage persists year-round, offering year-round interest without any significant fall color change. Produces inconspicuous white flowers in spring, followed by small black fruits that attract birds but are not suitable for human consumption. Highly resistant to deer, it can be used as a stunning vertical accent or hedge in tight spaces, making it an excellent choice for minimalist landscaping designs.
