About this plant
This deciduous shrub features a rounded, bushy habit and is admired for its striking, multi-season interest. The foliage emerges deep burgundy-purple in spring, holding its rich color throughout the growing season before turning stunning shades of red, orange, and purple in the fall. The plant produces soft, airy plumes of pinkish-purple "smoke-like" flowers in summer, creating a hazy effect that adds an ethereal quality to the garden. It is hardy in Zones 5–8 and thrives in full sun, tolerating a wide range of soils as long as they are well-drained. Mature plants can reach a height of 6–8 feet with a similar spread. This shrub is moderately deer-resistant and makes a dramatic specimen or accent plant, offering bold color and texture to landscapes.
