Camellia sas. 'Showa-no-sakae' (pink)

This evergreen shrub features a compact, espaliered growth habit, making it a stunning choice for walls, fences, or trellises. Recommended for USDA hardiness zones 7-9, it thrives in mild climates with temperatures ranging from 15°F to 85°F. During the cooler months, this plant showcases profuse, semi-double pink blooms with a delicate fragrance, adding year-round beauty to your garden. It prefers slightly acidic, well-drained soils rich in organic matter and benefits from partial shade to avoid scorching leaves. The glossy, dark green foliage provides a lush backdrop that contrasts beautifully with the vibrant pink flowers. As it matures, this espaliered camellia maintains a controlled and elegant form, with a height generally reaching 6-10 feet. It is moderately deer-resistant and makes an excellent specimen for formal or Asian-inspired gardens. Fall color is not a significant feature of this plant, but its evergreen nature ensures continuous visual appeal throughout the year.
