Camellia jap. 'Bob Hope' (red)

This evergreen shrub features a compact, upright habit with glossy, dark green foliage that provides year-round interest. It thrives in USDA hardiness zones 7-9 and prefers a temperate climate with well-drained, acidic soils. This variety showcases striking, velvety red, semi-double flowers that bloom in late winter to early spring, creating a vibrant splash of color during cooler months. While it does not have notable fall color, its elegant shape and lush foliage make it an attractive addition to shaded or partially shaded gardens. Mature plants typically reach a height of 6-8 feet and a width of 4-6 feet. This plant is moderately deer-resistant and works beautifully as a specimen plant, in hedges, or as a staple in woodland garden designs.
