About this plant
This deciduous ornamental shrub or small tree features a compact, upright habit with an elegant vase-shaped form, maturing to a height of approximately 15–20 feet and spreading 12–15 feet wide. It thrives in USDA hardiness zones 5–9, preferring full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil with moderate moisture. This cultivar dazzles in early spring with an abundance of vibrant pink flowers that hug the bare branches before the heart-shaped foliage emerges. The glossy, deep green leaves provide a lush summer canopy and transition to attractive yellow hues in the fall. It is relatively deer-resistant, making it a low-maintenance choice for gardens prone to browsing. Its moderate water requirements and adaptability to various soil types make it a standout addition to landscapes, ideal for specimen, border, or accent planting.
