About this plant
This compact, deciduous shrub is known for its vibrant, burgundy-purple foliage that deepens in color as the season progresses, offering a dramatic pop of color in the garden. Its habit is mounding and dense, making it an excellent choice for borders, hedges, or as a focal point in small spaces. Hardy in USDA zones 4-8, it thrives in full sun and prefers well-drained soil, tolerating a range of soil types. In fall, its foliage transitions to a brilliant crimson, adding seasonal interest, and it may produce small, bright red berries that persist into winter, attracting birds. This plant reaches a mature height of 18-24 inches with a similar spread and boasts a high level of deer resistance. Its compact shape and striking color make it an easy-care option for a variety of landscapes.
