About this plant
A deciduous shrub with an upright, rounded habit, this plant is a stunning addition to gardens. It thrives in USDA hardiness zones 5 to 9, tolerating temperatures down to -20°F. During spring, it produces showy, pendulous clusters of pink to deep red flowers, which give way to small, dark purple fruits that attract birds. Its green foliage may develop a subtle golden or bronze hue in the fall. This shrub is drought-tolerant once established and grows best in well-drained soil with moderate moisture. Reaching a mature height of 6 to 10 feet, it offers a naturalistic shape and form, making it ideal for borders or hedging. Slightly resistant to deer, it's a great fit for wildlife-friendly gardens.
