Hamamelis mollis 'Pallida' (yellow)

This deciduous shrub exhibits an upright, spreading habit, reaching a mature height of approximately 10 to 15 feet with a similar spread. Hardy in zones 5 to 8, it thrives in temperatures ranging from -20°F to 20°F, making it ideal for temperate gardens. This plant is celebrated for its striking winter interest, producing fragrant, spidery clusters of lemon-yellow flowers on bare branches from late winter to early spring. The ovate green foliage turns warm shades of golden-yellow in the fall, adding seasonal appeal. It prefers well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil with consistent moisture and grows well in part shade to full sun. Its rounded, open shape adds texture to garden beds and borders, and it shows moderate resistance to deer browsing. Ideal for woodland gardens, mixed shrub borders, or as a standalone feature, this shrub also serves as an early food source for pollinators. Its low-maintenance nature makes it a favorite for many gardeners.
